Head of Corporate Affairs

Job Description

As our new Head of Corporate Affairs you will be responsible for the execution of the corporate affairs (government affairs, external/ internal communications, media relations, patient advocacy) activities at the Finnish Affiliate.

The Head Corporate Affairs is responsible for identifying and setting strategic corporate affairs objectives designed to support, protect, and grow the Affiliate's business. The Head Corporate Affairs is responsible for development and execution of the government affairs strategy, stakeholder engagement, corporate reputation, issues & crisis management, strategic communications and media relations. Furthermore, the Head Corporate Affairs will be responsible for patient advocacy relation's in Biogen's therapeutic areas (MS, SMA, Alzheimer's) .

The purpose of the role is to contribute to building the Biogen brand and development and strengthening of the Biogen business in Finland by influencing the Finnish healthcare environment so that it remains viable for biopharmaceutical innovations. The Head Corporate Affairs will be part of affiliate leadership team and will report to Managing Director in Finland.

Government Affairs

  • Develop, drive & coordinate Government Affairs strategies in the affiliate
  • Drive and manage governmental affairs at National and Regional level 
  • Create strategy and drive affiliate Corporate Affairs stakeholder management\Develop relationships with key decision makers and other stakeholders to advance Biogen's policy goals
  • Enhance visibility and reputation of Biogen with all relevant stakeholders and position Biogen as leader in neuroscience. Monitor the policy and political environment for salient and emerging issues and timely and regularly inform the Managing Director and leadership team
  • Identify opportunities and threats in the legislative process to advance or defend identified Biogen's policy objectives
  • Active engagement in trade associations to create a better business climate for Biogen

External and internal communications

  • External and Internal communications: Raise the company's profile through developing communication strategies supporting the company's corporate reputation, strategic initiatives, marketed products and pipeline programs.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies to raise awareness of Biogen's scientific activities and products, seizing relevant opportunities to enhance the organization's image. This applies to company reputation, strategic initiatives, marketed products and pipeline programs.
  • Support Managing Director and leadership team in internal communications efforts to ensure aligned and focused internal communications to all Affiliate employees.
  • Assume full responsibility for external communications in Finland and ensure 100% compliance with corporate communications and disclosure rules. Provide dedicated and expert communications counsel and insights to local leadership on positioning and messaging in building awareness, understanding and support for the company's strategic goals and priorities among multiple stakeholders.

Media relations and issue management

  • Establish and leverage media network in Finland to improve and protect Biogen reputation in Finnish media.
  • Build and maintain media network in Finland. Monitor and pro-actively manage developments that could enhance or threaten Biogen reputation in the media
  • Drive media coverage around key milestones, leveraging multiple channels such as general media, medical and industry press, social media (including local company website(s)) to increase visibility and reach target audiences.
  • Ensure positive coverage of Biogen's ambition to be a leader in neuroscience; Manage crisis communications and issues management.
  • Identify and address issues that may impact Biogen's reputation as a responsible corporate citizen. Co-develop and implement the Affiliate's strategies for communicating and responding in the event of a crisis. Provide real-time support and guidance to the Leadership Team on crisis/issues management

Patient Advocacy

  • Develop and execute patient advocacy strategy in key disease areas. Engage with patient advocacy organizations in key disease areas (MS, SMA, Alzheimer) to incorporate the patient perspective in Biogen's strategies.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment with other departments within the affiliate

 Capabilities building

  • Provide training and updates to all functions (marketing & sales, medical, MA, regulatory) and Leadership team in government and political structures, healthcare system decision-making processes, financial flows and HTA

  • Keep affiliate knowledge level on a high level to enable strategic decision making

 

Specialist Experience

  • 8-10 years of relevant experience required (governmental affairs management, public affairs)
  • Experience from political and/or Ministry civil servant environment
  • Proven and broad network of National and Regional decision makers
  • Higher education/University level. MBA would be a plus
  • Used to travelling, working independently and planning own time and schedule
  • Native Finnish speaker with fluent English skills (verbal, reading and writing)
  • Managerial experience
  • Experience in a cross-functional position
  • Knowledge of Finnish healthcare legislation 
  • Knowledge of Finnish healthcare future changes
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent experience and proven track record in negotiations; analytical thinking skills
  • Results driven
  • Change management and/or Project management experience
