An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the MEA Government Affairs and Market Access teams as Head of Pricing – MEA.

You will work under the supervision of the MEA Government Affairs and Market Access (GAMA) Head on the development and implementation of pricing strategies for AstraZeneca (AZ) portfolio in the Region. You will be responsible for Global Pricing Implementation (GPI) and Global Market Access on management and optimization of MEA pricing within the International Reference Pricing (IRP) and launch sequence for our portfolio. You will work closely with Market Access leads in the Market Companies (MC), Key Account Management (KAM), Finance, and Commercial heads on all operational aspects of pricing and tender management. You will work closely with Finance and be responsible for optimizing the List:Net prices and price-volume measures in different countries in order to deliver our financial goals and optimize profitability year-on-year.

 Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for all operational aspects of pricing in the MEA region for all products in the Oncology  Business Unit (OBU) and BioPharmaceutical Business Unit (BBU).
  • Works with the MEA MA Head, Country MA leads, and GPI on developing and implementing pricing strategies for our products to achieve our financial goals.
  • Works with MEA MA Head, relevant MEA LT, and GPI on launch sequencing of new products to optimize our registered prices and minimize negative International Reference pricing (IRP).
  • Works closely with DRA Teams in the MC on all Pricing related submission to regulatory authorities to ensure Price Certificates, recommended price proposals, and received prices from Regulatory authorities are on strategy.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date PRICE database with all products and respective prices. This includes List prices, Net prices and Tender prices.
  • Performs analysis on potential impact of changes in the marketed products prices on countries within the MEA region to minimize the impact of reference pricing on the MEA P&L.
  • To work with cross-functional teams on identifying growth opportunities based on current and previous prices, and volumes to drive business growth.
  • Works closely with MA and Local Teams in the countries on negotiation strategies throughout the price negotiation process.
  • Work closely with MA and KAM on developing new pricing options for key brands to win competitive tenders or LPO in a sustainable way.
  • Works closely with MA Leads and KAM in the MC, to develop and maintain accurate and updated database of all tender details including products, prices, quantities, and competitors’ winning prices.
  • Develop and maintain necessary tools to facilitate analysis and reporting of pricing patterns and business performance.
  • Works closely with MC to ensure speedy price approval of all pricing request outside the GPI approved pricing policies


Specialist Experience


  • Advanced university degree (PhD, PharmD, Masters) in Pharmacy, Health Economics, Finance with relevant experience, and preferably MBA from an accredited university
  • English (read and write, proficiency)
  • Arabic (read and write, proficiency)
  • Prior direct experience (5+ years) in Pricing and Market Access is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to think broadly and innovatively within the Pharmaceutical business
  • Proven ability to work effectively across a matrix organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical ability.
  • Excellent time management skills


  • Experience in above-market pricing (e.g. regional role) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in KAM, Finance, and BD&L in major Pharma, Biotechnology and/or Medical Devise companies is highly desirable.
