About the role

To represent Planning & Technical Function holistically within NoJvs operations, looking after all technical services areas and studies within the different operations and projects that comprise the NoJVs portfolio, ensuring the development  and technical analysis over the key focus areas required to analyse and maximize value and reduce technical risks. As part of the NOJVs leadership team, this role has to provide technical guidance, and participate and represent BHP in different technical committees and technical boards, as well as, leading and govern the Corporate alignment Planning Cycle (CAP) inside de NoJVs function.

Transversal roles

  • Leads the Planning and Technical activities and resources to support the NOJV organization in the execution of their role of ensuring the best NOJV performance aligned to the values and interest of BHP.
  • Leads multiple studies and technical activities leading and coordinating with Technical Stewardship, Directional Studies and Strategic Services teams to capture and maximize long-term value of all non-operated joint ventures Assets in Minerals Americas.
  • Build strong relationship and exercise influential role with peers at P&T and Non-Operated Joint Ventures through the excellence in technical practices and cooperation.
  • Exert key influential skills to different shareholder into the different NoJVs Assets / Projects.
  • Lead Active participation into the different technical committees and technical Boards inside of NoJVs assets / projects.
  • Foster a creative environment to push the thinking; drives appropriate levels of stakeholder engagement to ensure organisational alignment. 

Roles towards its team

  • Manage his team priorities, acts as a role model and provides quality feedback and performance evaluations to help them on their development  and the accomplishment of their goals.
  • Provide guidance and direction to his/her direct reports in the accomplishment of their responsibilities.
  • Ensures alignment with the wider Global and Functional goals and strategies.

Roles towards upper manager (Principal Mining Technical)

Provides advice and guidance to the Planning & Technical VP and NOJV Asset president in the matters of his/her accountability and domain.

Other roles 

  • Act as the Planning & Technical VP representative at the non-operated joint ventures Leadership Team.
  • Participate as a member of the NoJVs leadership team.



Specialist Experience

  • Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant Engineering discipline(s).
  • Ideally further study such as MSc in mining engineering, minerals economics or MBA.
  • Typically 15+ years’ experience in mine operations, exploration, resource engineering, directional studies and business development activities, in particular large and complex operation(s).
  • High degree of experience and knowledge of Corporate, Business and Asset Planning process.
  • Experience within Project settings across Minerals industry including project evaluation.
  • International experience, leading diverse teams located in different jurisdictions, and participation in technical boards with diverse members (owners, jurisdiction, culture).
  • English written and spoken. Spanish desired
