Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology Southern Africa is currently seeking a Business Line Manager – Services reporting to the Vice President / MD Sales Southern Africa. We are seeking a Senior Manager who leads and coordinates the work of leaders, and/or specialists to achieve agreed business and/or divisional results and drives service excellence, most effective and efficient service organisation that exceeds customer expectations. He/She has full managerial responsibility for multi teams/departments and/or specialists departments. Work is normally carried in an indirect manner through others and by setting and cascading organizational targets. He/She contributes to the work of Executive leaders.


Main responsibilities:

  • Execution of Global divisional strategy within a matrix organization
  • Ultimate responsibility to meet established sales targets and ensuring they are effectively cascaded in relevant targets of the relevant teams
  • Provide regular business performance metric reports to management;
  • Liaise and work with senior management to set forecasts, budgets, and targets,
  • Ensure that end-user and customer relations are effectively managed,
  • Review and monitor sales performance and refine sales strategy as required,
  • Manage relevant managers performance and results,
  • Managerial responsibility for multiple teams across locations
  • Ensure strong financial discipline within Southern Africa sales area, balancing sales and managing Administrative and Sales (A&S) expenses (Direct & Indirect)



  • Responsible to supervise the NPS program
  • Responsible to manage the E-business development program and implement its best practices
  • Lead and support the development of e-business culture/customer experience
  • Provide process and system support to CSC team for applications including Aurora, eBusiness, Salesforce, MySandvik etc.
  • Implement new/adjusted processes, systems and relevant applications in respect of all available digital market channels
  • Accountable for eBusiness program user set up and administration, including FDM License Management
  • Ensure equipment data is maintained to the highest standard in the defined Master Data management system
  • Perform integrity checks with Key Stakeholders to gain information of the changes in customers existing fleet.
  • Provide first line support to assist sales team and customers with e-commerce solutions
  • Responsible for technical/systems onboarding/training of new customers/key users
  • Responsible to maintain data integrity within the eBusiness systems (Fleet management, My Sandvik, etc.)
  • Identify issues related to e-commerce and set-up mitigation and resolution activities
  • Implement tools/reports/analytics to drive improvements in sales efficiency and hit rates
  • Develop bundled offerings and campaigns


Effective customer relations:

  • Proactively manage customer relations
  • Compile competitor analysis & needs analysis
  • Ensure relationship marketing & market services
  • Maintain regular interaction with client(s)
  • Clarify expectations & Long term planning
  • Report deviations and trends


 Effective subordinates:

  • Effective performance agreements, reviews & appraisals
  • Develop Succession plan(s)
  • Create learning opportunities
  • Provide coaching and mentoring
  • Implement training and development plan
  • Continuous assessment of current team members skills levels


Cost Effectiveness:

  • Produce rolling forecast, budget & weekly targets
  • Prepare and present financial and budgetary reviews & reports
  • Identify & implement procedural changes
  • Manage and institute performance recommendations
  • Conduct continuous needs analysis (internal & external)


Key Performance Indicators:

  • Workshop / Contract performance: efficiency, throughput, operational standards
  • Standardization of Operations
  • WIP Aging (share of WIP < 30 days in total WIP
  • Workforce retention
  • Service contracts profitability
  • Competence development of service personnel
  • Service utilization (workshop and field service)
  • EHS measurement
  • Variance on standard hours / MTTR / job cost
  • Cost of quality


Specialist Experience



Technical Competencies

Account Management, Finance and Business Acumen, Quality Management, Products & Services, Producing Results, Problem Solving, Risk Management, Administrative Compliance , Project Management and Field Sales.


Human Resources Competencies

Knowledge / Experience 

  • Exposure to mobile mining equipment or similar - workshop / field service
  • Qualifications or Experience with Six Sigma and productivity improvement programs essential
  • 5 years experience in Engineering/Business Administration would be a distinct advantage.
  • At least 5 years in a Management/Leadership role
  • Experience in managing heavy engineering workshop facilities


Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant Business Degree/Diploma
  • Office Suite Literacy
  • English proficiency


Advantageous Skills and Qualifications:

  • MBA/MBL advantageous
  • Mining applications (Specifically Underground mining) advantageous


Other Requirements:

  • Physical & Medical ability to function in a mining environment
  • Will be required to travel
  • Willingness to relocate (Based on operational requirements)
