Position Overview          


This position is responsible for category management and sourcing  of relevant indirect purchase spend through collaboration with regional and global sourcing professionals and local stakeholders in the region of Central Eastern Europe (CEE) Balkans, Greece, Cyprus and Malta.

Specialist Procurement conducts and coordinates sourcing projects to support development and implementation of global and regional sourcing strategies in the field of indirect spend. Willing to participate in and coordinate cross-functional teams through the Sourcing management process and to participate in execution of sourcing plans according to global, regional and local components of the category strategy.

Co-responsible for identifying and managing saving targets and other key metrics to establish target.

Takes part in sourcing, contracting , data gathering & analysis, compliance, as well as process set-up, management and continuous improvement. Ensures overall administration process related to regional sourcing projects.


Major Activities


  1. Category Scope –Specialist Procurement is responsible for sourcing operations of number of indirect categories in Central Eastern  Europe (CEE), Balkans, Greece, Cyprus & Malta  ( sub-cluster) including implementation. Liaises with Global and Regional Procurement to ensure sub-cluster category spends are managed in line with agreed Regional and Global sourcing strategies. Ensures overall administration process related to regional sourcing projects.
  2. Sourcing Management – Applies, coordinates and conducts Sourcing Management Process to manage assurance of supply, quality, service, cost, innovation and compliance within the sub-cluster  for indirect purchasing categories resulting in optimized value. Is involved in development of buyer business plans and execution in alignment with Global Procurement and MSD sourcing rigor processes.  
  3. Proactive Cost Management: Participates on achievement of cost control, cost reduction, and cost containment  targets, and adds value to area of expenditure through a strong total cost orientation. Ensures proper reporting and documenting in accordance with the company policies and standards.    
  4. Market Knowledge: Uses thorough market knowledge and data analysis to gain critical insights that help to drive the selection of sourcing projects and continuous improvement for spend optimization activities.
  5. Supplier Management: Engages in building relationship with local and regional suppliers in the sub-cluster and in managing key supplier performance against business requirements. Ensures adequate inclusion of diversity suppliers in selection process and contracts applicable. 
  6. Stakeholder Management and Business Sponsorship: Proactively engages and drives stakeholder identification and management. Participates on engagement of assigned stakeholders and partners with them across divisions and across countries to define and meet or exceed business requirements and identify and manage profit plan savings targets. Involved in understanding business requirements at different stakeholder levels.
  7. Contract Negotiation and Management: Once strategy is approved, conducts the sourcing including RFX, RFP, negotiations and contracting for indirect categories to select and put in place the right suppliers. Responsible for presenting supplier award and for applying for approval according to the MSD GP process and requirements. 
  8. Compliance: Ensures compliance with MSD local and global Purchasing policies and standards.


Value creation: Seeks and implements opportunities to drive value (e.g. cost and quality) for MSD.



Specialist Experience

Expertise Required / Core Competences  


Education:  University or College degree preferably in economical or business area. MBA or advanced degree is desirable.

Experience: 3-5 years experience in sourcing and preferably in category management.  Has experience in international business and cross functional environment.Fluency in English as a must and additional language knowledge within the sub-cluster is an advantage.     

Skills: Knowledge of Indirect  Procurement categories and Pharmaceutical industry is an advantage.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Cultural awareness and sensitivity  is required.

Demonstrates solid project management capabilities with particular strength in collaboration, written and verbal communication and cross-functional team work.

Process oriented and analytical skills as well as solid IT application skils0 are required in Microsoft Office. SAP experience is an advantage.
