This is a 12 month contract role

Job Summary

The Manufacturing & Market Financial Manager plays a key role in the development and execution of activities and delivery of financial objectives relating to the Bolton Food Factory (primarily) & co-piloting the Canadian Market unit by supporting the Segment Finance Director.  This position works closely with the Segment Finance Director (Foods), the Site Director and Mars Food US associates to provide analysis, interpret and report financial results and recommend actions.  This position will also provide key financial analysis of new product proposals, cost initiatives, CAB and support the annual Operating Plan (BFP and Market).


The Manufacturing & Market Financial Manager plays a key role in the development and execution of activities and delivery of financial objectives relating to the Food factory in Canada. The role will report directly to the Segment Finance Director in Food, with dotted line relationships to the Site Director at the factory, as well as to the Sr. Supply S&F Manager in the US 

This role will also provide support, when needed, to the Segment Finance Director in the achievement of Canadian Market Financial results and in the development and engagement of the Canadian Food Finance team.

Bolton Food Plant support & co-piloting (80%):

1.1 Communication and Analysis :

  • Provide consultative advice and direction to Supply Leadership Team members through insightful analysis and financial skills to ensure their actions are consistent with delivery of the factory’s business goals. 
  • Ensure financial risks and opportunities are appropriately quantified, communicated, and actioned.

1.2 Reporting, Forecasting and Analysis :

  • Responsible for closing the General Ledger each four-week period for the Food Factory accounts.   Responsibilities include P&L variance analysis and Balance Sheet account reconciliation.
  • Support the Manufacturing Site Director in reporting and analyzing all Manufacturing Conversion Costs (MCCs) and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Responsible for the preparation of Quarterly Year-End Estimate financial forecasts for the Food Factory.  Analysis and review will include reconciliation to both Plan and prior year, Country and Brand Profitability (Corporate Profit) as well as clear identification of potential risks and opportunities facing the business.
  • Represent S&F in the local Supply Chain Management Review (SCMR) meeting (which feeds into S&OP Step 3), clearly outlining the current financial state of the factory, identifying and sharing risks and opportunities, providing ways to mitigate the risks, and escalating issues to the region if needed
  • Responsible for the preparation of Annual Operating Plan and the Inter-company prices.  Analysis and review will include reconciliation to prior year pricing, as well as year-over-year variances to the manufacturing cost structure.
  • Provide support to all engineering, logistics and commercial activities. This includes assessing the viability of new capital projects, new sourcing (vendors) for commodity purchases and other new business opportunities and processes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely input and maintenance of standards (commodities/ WIP/labour/FG/excess) within HELIOS and SAP cost accounting system. 
  • Maintain reports and reconcile all Capital Project spending in appropriate systems.
  • Support compilation and distribution of manufacturing financial reporting on a timely basis.  Ensure the data within HELIOS is accurate and robust. 
  • Assist with ongoing accurate asset valuation including validation of timely obsolete inventory reserves (FG/R&P).  Support periodic physical inventory reviews and audits
  • Prepare supporting financial analysis for the Finance Director when requested and pro-actively provide ad-hoc analysis when appropriate.
  • Engineering co-piloting on ensuring controls and project closures are managed appropriately

1.3 System Management :

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of manufacturing process operations and various mainframe systems functionality that supports those processes.
  • Develop sufficient expertise to support the role of technical advisor on proposed system changes or adaptations that have financial reporting implications. 
  • Ensure that period and quarterly financial reporting requirements supported by these systems are robust and accurate.
  • Hierarchy maintenance and data loads in HELIOS

1.4 Fixed Cost (Capital) Management :

  • Maintain and control the Fixed Asset Register for the Bolton Food Factory with emphasis on asset completeness and accuracy.  
  • Complete and validate all Food Capital Reports
  • Ensure all new assets are created and capitalized within the timely controls in the Finance manual

1.5 Special Projects:

  • Prepare supporting financial analysis for the Segment Finance Director when requested and pro-actively provide ad-hoc analysis when appropriate.
  • On the job training and development.
  • Responsible for following all Quality and Food Safety Policies and applicable procedures.

2. Canadian Market Unit support & co-piloting (20%):

  • As required, support the Segment Finance Director in the areas of Financial Shaping, Decision making & co-piloting and team engagement & development
  • The Manufacturing & Market Manager is expected to provide leadership and guidance to other team members, particularly in the absence of the Segment Finance Director

Specialist Experience

  • University Degree (preferably Business) and Finance Designation preferred (incl. MBA)
  • Excellent analytical skills (mathematical aptitude and information filtering)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (Excel modelling, PowerPoint presentations) & ability to understand and adapt to in-house finance/forecast systems
  • General Ledger / Accounting system – SAP & HELIOS
