Job Description

The Head of Sustainable Investment, Asia-Pacific is a key senior and highly visible (permanent & full time) role within FTSE Russell’s Sustainable Investment team. This individual will represent the business in its client engagement activities and through industry platforms in the region.


The role requires a wide range of relevant competencies, combining deep market and technical knowledge of investor Sustainable Investment implementation activities and priorities – both regionally and globally – with strategic focus and excellent communication skills. In addition, they will understand the broad – and rapidly evolving – landscape of Sustainable Investment products across asset classes. The Head of Sustainable Investment, Asia-Pacific will also have excellent knowledge of, and contribute to, the wider practitioner debate on Sustainable Investment within the region.


The key focus for the individual will be business and product development, working in close collaboration with the regional Sales, Marketing and Index Research teams as well as the wider Sustainable Investment / Data Solutions team.


The role will have a excellent commercial element, and is expected to be around 70% market facing. This will primarily involve shaping FTSE Russell’s client engagement strategy on ESG / Sustainable Investment in the region. Additional key responsibilities will include: managing the regional Sustainable Investment strategy; Sustainable Investment product development (based on the client engagement strategy); line management; supporting internal integration efforts and the design and delivery of high quality content (e.g. presentations, press and other communication media, short papers).


Key competencies and Responsibilities


Business Development and Client support:

  • Demonstrable experience in capital markets, and specific expertise in relation to Sustainable Investment

  • Excellent understandingof both general and Sustainable Investment activities and challenges of asset owners, asset managers, consultants and banks

  • Ability to develop senior relationships with asset owners and FTSE Russell’s strategic clients and partners, in order to support ESG opportunities in particular

  • Able to work closely with associated teams (Sales, Marketing, Research) to ensure client continuity and to be able to travel across the region

  • Experience in managing client relationships


ESG Strategy and Business Planning:

  • Lead on the development and implementation of regional Sustainable Investment business plans

  • Support the global Sustainable Investment strategy and business plans, in particular by working closely with FTSE Russell’s ‘Sustainable Investment Steering Committee’

  • Develop excellent working relationships across FTSE Russell/LSEG departments and offices to achieve broader business objectives


ESG Product management:

  • Work closely with Index Research to synthesize client feedback into Sustainable Investment product design and development

  • Maintain detailed understanding of ESG products and services across the market

  • Provide critical market input FTSE Russell’s Sustainable Investment Data Solutions team on product methodology refinements and development



  • Act as a key regional spokesman on FTSE Russell’s Sustainable Investment products, services and wider activities (inc. market/issuer engagement; public policy)

  • Design and deliver high quality presentations at key conferences and events in the region

  • Deliver high caliber verbal and written reports (internally and externally)

  • Lead relationships with key industry associations

  • Support relevant independent Committees and regional members


Specialist Experience

It is expected that the candidate will be able to deliver all key aspects of the role identified above. In addition the ideal candidate would have:

  • Deep understanding of the use of ESG data in investments

  • Demonstrable experience in financial services and complex data systems

  • Business development and client servicing experience

  • Project management experience, organizational and time management skills

  • MBA, MSc or CFA, and a top grade degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Science, Math or Business) from a leading university

  • Experience in working with senior executives and non-executives i.e. CEOs, CIOs, Board members and Trustees

  • Excellent verbal and written ability in English
