Czech Republic – Brno

 

The position will be within the Project Management Office (PMO) of the IT organization of the Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The position will be located in our Brno, CZ site, but may require 25% or more travel to other sites globally, depending on the specific needs of a program or project.

 

How will you make an impact?

The position is responsible for delivering programs and projects with a strategic impact to MSD and Thermo Fisher Scientific overall. The programs and projects will support accelerated growth within MSD with a focus on enterprise wide initiatives. This is a leadership position within the IT organization – remote management and a self-directed attitude is critical.

 

 

What will you do?

  • Manages a number of active programs / projects with regular monitoring and support from upper management, ensuring all assigned projects are delivered on time and within the revenue and the budget.
  • Leads the team to resolve all program / project issues and resource constraints affecting the portfolio with assistance from upper management. Manages planning and scheduling conflicts among the project team.
  • Prepares reports on program / project performance for and leads program / project reviews.
  • Manages all associated client program / project deliverables in line with the defined responsibilities of each project team member.
  • Manages client expectations efficiently with minimal guidance. Maintains strong working relationships with all client representatives. Must have strong presentation skills with proven experience delivering formal presentations to various levels of management (both locally and remote)
  • Communicates issues or risks in a timely and effective manner and develops mitigation plans to address/resolve them.
  • Manages multiple projects/programs for individual customers

 

The IT Program Manager at MSD coordinates activities between multiple projects to ensure they align with the organization’s goals. They must also be able to lead specific projects, resolve issues, and act as a key leader within IT. Importantly, they must be seen as a driver of project execution, and ensuring commitments are met while actively communicating to many different stakeholders.

 

 

Specialist Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering or related field. MBA preferred.
  • Must have at least 5+years of Project Management experience managing formalized IT ERP projects with Large ERP experience preferred.
  • Expertise with management, delivery and full accountability with large, enterprise wide projects
  • ITIL Knowledge a plus
  • Hi-tech knowledge and experience a plus.
  • ‘Top 4’ consulting experience a plus
  • Experience working in a matrix and shared services environment
  • Global cross cultural experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to work with limited guidance in a matrixed, complex environment but own responsibility for outcomes of programs / projects – remote management, self-directed management, and drive are critical
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in creating Work Break Down Structures, Risk Management techniques, Gantt Charts, Pert Charts, Cost Estimating, and other concepts associated with project management methodologies. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute preferred
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to help guide and lead the work of others.
  • Position is within the IT organization and basic understanding and acumen of IT systems, environments, and processes are required
  • Exposure to financial processes preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to interact effectively with others internal and external to the Company, which includes senior and middle management levels.
  • Strong presentation skills with proven experience delivering formal presentations to various levels of management
  • Self-motivated and independent thinker who can translate circumstances and understanding into actions that move the business forward; ability to work independently without significant direction
  • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, crisis management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to do the right thing under pressure and tight deadlines in a complex, matrixed environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of other personal styles
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and team members in other functions over whom the Program Manager has no direct managing authority
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a passion for driving execution at a detailed level, while still maintaining the ability to see the big picture
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
