Head Customer and Business Insights-Hematology & Ophthalmology Franchises

Job Description

The incumbent is in charge of the overall responsibility for the Hematology/Ophthalmology Customer and Business Insights (CBI) team in terms of budget, recruitment, personal development, target- and performance management as well as for the off-shore team in India for all CBI related activities. Main tasks are:


  • Identifying competitor related information needs of business partners and managing all primary and secondary Customer Insights (CI) projects incl. global consolidation, documentation, and timely availability of CI information for key therapeutic areas 
  • Actively participate as core member of Brand Commercial Teams (Ophthalmology) and Hematology (Hem) franchises and support strategic decision-making based on global competitive insights
  • Identify competitive trends, opportunities and threats based on commercial and scientific insights; develop conclusions and provide recommendations to ensure that appropriate business actions can be taken to maximize the value of our portfolio 
  • Develop, coach, lead a cross functional team of global customer insight professionals in Basel, and provide regular updates to Therapeutic Area heads for Hem and Ophthalmology franchises 
  • Overall responsibility for driving MR/CI planning and implementation and harmonizing competitive insights activities and the set-up of global standards and processes in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and codes, such as adverse event reporting or active online listening requirements
  • Collaborate with procurement to select, manage and evaluate external agencies and build long-term strategic partnerships with MR/CI agencies
  • Decide and ensure appropriate budget allocation and spending acc. to planned activities





Specialist Experience

  • MBA or other advanced degree in fields such as Life Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration, Public Health or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry and at least 3 years in Market Research/Insights
  • Experience in market research, global and regional roles and knowledge of therapeutic areas (Ophthalmology, Hematology or specialty) is a plus 
  • Leadership skills on a high level with ability to guide and motivate co-workers and internal business partners
  • Excellent negotiation skills with regard to external as well as internal business partners
  • Strong display of strategic thinking and advanced problem-solving and analytical skills; with creative/innovative approaches to issues; and sound judgment
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills, along with ability to influence senior managers at all levels within company and suppliers / consultants
  • Ability to lead and coordinate projects through international and interdisciplinary groups and must be able to clearly and concisely communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Intercultural sensitivity is a must
  • Solid and proven knowledge of competitive intelligent sources and methods is required
  • High degree of independence, plan, organize and implement multiple projects within time, budget and capacity constraints
  • Fluent English (written and spoken) is required, second language is a plus
  • Some international travel is required
