Business Analytics & Insights Manager - Upjohn Italy

Job Description

The BAI Manager will proactively partner with the country leadership in Upjohn Italy to ensure the delivery of high quality strategic business decision support.

As part of the Upjohn marketing organization, this position will be responsible to support the commercial model transformation through performance tracking, omnichannel analytics, development and management of a customer insights platform, segmentation and customer journeys. This will include setting up and maintaining a measurement framework as well as provide overall performance assessments

Additionally, this Senior Manager will also seamlessly interface with the Upjohn Global Analytics team members. Upjohn has developed an exciting “Helix” approach to working cross-functionally as opposed to a traditional matrix structure. With the “Helix”, the BAI colleague will have the opportunity to be directly part of the commercial team, but will also be part of creating the Upjohn BAI community.  He/she will be part of any BAI Centers of Excellence (CoEs) , will help develop new best practices for the Upjohn group and will benefit from functional skill building and professional development as a member of this community.

This role is dynamic, fast-paced, highly collaborative, and covers a broad range of strategic topics that are critical to our business. The successful candidate will embody Upjohn cultural principles of being “fast, focused and flexible.” He/she will join the Upjohn Italy mkt team to support business transformation through their proactive thought leadership, innovative analytical capabilities and their ability to communicate highly complex and dynamic information in new and creative ways. 


Role definition and Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recommend, define and implement a performance measurement framework that enables and influences setting and monitoring of National and Regional business priorities and performance objectives
  • Lead effective performance measurement and deliver regular assessments of portfolio performance to leadership. Ensure accuracy of the reports and clear articulation of the data and its meaning for the business, including identifying and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support the segmentation and analysis of the Upjohn portfolio as well as the analysis and commercial assessment of any commercial opportunities as necessary and provide support to country Leadership where appropriate.
  • Independently lead complex and significantly impactful customer/omnichannel analysis and consultation to proactively provide deep insights and recommendations that drive and maximize business opportunities, including advanced analytics segmentation, customer journey development, data mining, workshopping insights into actions.
  • Provide advanced analytics and insights for Omnichannel Editorial Boards and Editorial Plans development,
  • Perform integrated analysis for constantly monitoring Content and Channel performance within the omnichannel ecosystem (including social media)
  • Develop, commission and contract projects through effective agency and project management
  • Accountability for meeting compliance and Corporate SOP obligations of all PMR projects
  • Manage budgets associated with assigned activities
  • Be accountable for continuous improvement and identification/utilisation of new capabilities to maximise the competitive advantages of the business
  • Alignment with other BAI teams (CoEs) to ensure cohesive activities with our stakeholders



Specialist Experience

Functional & Technical Competencies

  • Strong ability to act as a strategic consultant influencing senior leaders
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to communicate complex work in ways that are understood and are actionable
  • Strong business acumen, big picture mentality, including good understanding of the healthcare trends and customer landscape in the country, broad knowledge of therapy areas
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, qualitative and quantitative market research skills with the ability to translate analytics into actionable strategic recommendations and capacity to effectively communicate complex information and concepts to different types of audience
  • Expertise in the field of multi-channel analytics including data mining and performance/KPI reporting
  • Experienced in managing different sources of information (Primary and Secondary data) to generate in depth analysis and deliver forecasts
  • Strong project management leadership skills and problem solving approach
  • Ability to lead matrix, multi-cultural and cross-functional teams without authority
  • Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize multiple demands and deal with ambiguity.
  • Strong team player, experienced with leading without authority in complex matrix environments.


  • 5+ years of commercial, strategy and/or research/analytic experience.
  • Experience with budget and resource allocation management.
  • Thorough understanding of Pharmaceutical market and related marketing and sales processes
  • Senior Stakeholder management
  • Experience in managing complex projects
  • Fluency in English  


  • Educated to degree level. MBA or advanced degree in Sciences/ Quantitative field preferred.
