Primary Job Functions:

The Junior Analyst Business Development Europe is responsible for the support of business development and sales activities for First Solar’s advanced thin-film PV modules in Europe. The role will support (Key) Account and Regional Managers to understand and evaluate the energy and PV market environment, identifying and developing strong customer relationships, generating sales opportunities and preparing quotes. The Europe BD team covers high touch Direct Sales to utility-scale project owners, medium touch Channel Partners and low touch Indirect Sales customers.


The successful candidate assumes the responsibility for the market analysis and customer analysis, support on Requests for Qualification (RfQ) and Requests for Proposals (RfP) as well as involvement in customer communication.

This candidate must have a strong understanding of the solar industry and module sales business models in Europe, have an effective communication style, and will be a highly entrepreneurial, commercially savvy team player.

  • Support several senior and junior key account and regional managers.
  • Support all key functions associated with the  sales of First Solar PV modules.
  • Ensuring the positive perception of First Solar’s advanced thin-film technology with local and regional customers.
  • If required, develop trusted professional relationships with customers, partners and those entities influencing the buying decisions.
  • Support activities to develop sales pipelines in different sales segments.
  • Coordinate with and collaborate within cross-functional teams in First Solar to align on the best suitable solutions meeting customers’ needs.
  • Close collaboration with the BD Execution, Fulfillment and After Sales Service teams when required.
  • Drive results by leveraging very strong analytical skills, including a high level of business acumen and financial sophistication to assess implications of tactical decisions.
  • Seek help and support of experienced team members (BD Managers and Directors) to adopt strategies and tactics for the sales process and activities
  • Respect corporate governance and compliance rules of First Solar and act in a transparent manner and in respect of FCPA requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage support provided by outside advisors or consultants.
  • Accept assignment to support other teams in the Europe/Africa regions as directed by the manager.


The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial and high-energy candidate with very strong analytical and project management skills who can drive results in a challenging market environment. A strategic, out of the box thinker who can proactively contribute to the development of the business of First Solar in Europe, and who has ambitions to drive success and develop him/herself further to acquire and manage projects and lead project teams.


Specialist Experience

    • An experienced business analyst or project manager with a minimum of 2 years of work experience in sales, business development or project management.
    • Experience in energy markets, ideally solar PV or renewable energy is required.
    • An individual who is capable of shaping and communicating a clear path on business development/sales or project management activities by developing goals, and securing the buy-in of regional, global management.
    • Ability to demonstrate sound financial, analytical, and numerical skills with an eye towards the financial implications of proposed concepts and decisions. 
    • The ideal candidate should have demonstrated sufficient business acumen to consistently deliver growth from product sales and solution provision simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated high level of commitment to the both the customer’s  and organization’s success.


    Required Skills:

    • Demonstrated experience working effectively in complex situations and with regulatory, commercial and governmental stakeholders as well as business partners and customers.
    • A resilient, tenacious and creative ability to overcome roadblocks and solving problems as they arise.
    • Experience living or working internationally and previous work experience with international or multi-national companies would be an advantage.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and rapidly changing business environment.
    • Superior analytical skills, creativity in problem solving, research capabilities and attention to details
    • Results driven, with a strong sense of accountability, metrics and ownership.
    • Ability to engage and respond to multiple tasks and opportunities, including international, to meet the requirements of deal schedules, internal and external response formats and timelines.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate crisply, enthusiastically, frequently and effectively.
    • Team player who removes barriers to working with others.
    • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects and tasks
    • Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others
    • Ability to travel for up to 50% of his/her available time if required.


    Professional and personal qualifications:

    • An undergraduate degree in a business or engineering discipline is required.
    • An MBA is viewed favorably.
    • High level of detail orientation and good analytical skills
    • Good communication skills are the basis to work successfully in a cross-functional environment
    • The main working language is English; German language skills are considered positively.
    • Knowledge of French, Spanish or Italian is a plus.
    • Demonstrated experience in MS office with strong skills on Excel and Powerpoint, strong command of internet and database research.
