Head of Pricing and Billing, TPS (SA)

Job Description

Transactional Products & Services; This team is constantly working to extend our service capability and product range, consolidating our operations in established markets while expanding and extending in emerging markets. We divide our core capabilities into three product groups – Investor Services, Transactional Banking and International Trade Services.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to support and enable the sales management team in TPS SA by embedding key pricing and billing disciplines, practices and policies consistently across the various sectors in order to maximise client profitability. This includes, but is not limited to product analytics, costing and profitability, IT project delivery, strategic planning, pricing governance and MIS provision. The role is also accountable for large cross product initiatives and to drive the 3 year price planning process.

Additionally this role performs a critical link role between Central Product management and local enablement activities, with full accountability to manage and deliver a project portfolio of more than R 10 million per annum.

Management and Coordination of the Pricing & Billing function

  • Maximise return within the TPS business through the development of a strong culture of governance and disciplined practice affecting activities and product components that are common to multiple product areas :

Pricing 

  • Ensuing that the SA sales organisation has robust pricing governance, processes and methodologies in place. 
  • Maintaining formal pricing records and being able to easily review product pricing for our clients.
  • Drive pricing approaches based on a sound understanding of cost, capital allocation, ROE, profitability and market forces.
  • Ensure pricing models are structured to meet pricing strategic requirements
  • Establish a differentiated pricing model and disciplines that support our business strategy with our selected client base.
  • To ensure that pricing to clients is within agreed parameters as set by Product Management, and that the process and discipline exists to ensure that all customised
    pricing is done at a level that delivers shareholder value, either directly at the product profitability level, or indirectly at the client profitability level.
  • Develop and execute an annual pricing operating plan that clearly lays out the priorities for the function and the objectives for the current year of operation. 
  • Collaborate and work with Business Banking colleagues on areas of joint benefit and priority.
  • Develop and communicate an infrastructure strategy to deliver all SA pricing requirements 
  • Deliver the pricing strategy through both IT and organic initiatives
  • Manage project delivery required to implement the infrastructure strategy
  • Manage the operational concession management system
  • Manage the pricing requirements and functionality across all new product and channel delivery initiatives
  • Manage end to end enablement of all pricing projects and initiatives

Billing 

  • Drive a SA billing strategy within the global billing framework.
  • Ensure that we are maximising the return from the business we are doing with our clients.
  • In conjunction with central product team, develop and execute an annual billing operating plan that clearly lays out the priorities for the function and the objectives for the current year of operation. 
  • Work collaboratively across both Product and Geographic teams to ensure alignment of objectives and that a measured improvement in product profitability and reduced revenue leakage is being achieved.
  • Actively drive the refund repudiations process. Ensure that refunds are minimised by analysing and addressing the root causes of refunds. 
  • Collaborate and work with Business Banking colleagues on areas of joint benefit and priority.
  • Accountable for billing and collection systems and processes covering all TPS SA NII and NIR revenue.

Develop and disseminate frequent management information and analytics

  • Ensure that the TPS Sector Heads and Product & Sales are being provided with the appropriate product performance MIS and product/market analytics to allow them to drive enhanced product profitability and return.
  • Work closely with market/competitor insights teams to provide insights to TPS product Managers on product performance/characteristics relative to market/competitors.
  • Develop a knowledge sharing framework including market developments and "best practices'.

Implement cost measurement and product profitability performance tracking measures

  • Actively manage key stakeholders:
  • Represent SA Product management on cross product initiatives and with key stakeholders such as Finance, Treasury and IT.
  • Drive SA Product agenda with key role players.
  • Ensure product revenue management principles and strategies are fully understood and applied by each sector head consistently
  • Perform a central communication role both in and out of the SA Product team

Governance

  • Actively drive the effectiveness of the pricing committee and ensure that audit issues as they relate to pricing & billing are dealt with efficiently.
  • Keep the pricing board abreast of issues as they relate to product pricing, and
  • Ensure that pricing and billing mandates are being consistently applied across the various sales teams 

People management

  • Selection, recruiting, manage, coach and develop all staff in the pricing team

Manage the 3-year strategic price planning process

  • Manage the creation of SA Product management 3 years plans.
  • Monitor the progress against the 3-year plan.
  • Include an understanding of market forces and competitor drivers in the strategic process
  • Alignment with stakeholders and implementation of controls and tracking to measure success of initiatives.

Business Improvements

  • Improved Business performance specifically as it relates to relates to increased return from business executed and appropriate pricing and billing disciplines applied.
  • Contribute to systems and process developments; improve organization setup, plan projects and major technical roll outs
  • Maximise TPS profitability through enhanced return on assets and liabilities in our balance sheet,
  • Delivery of superior product MIS and analytics that is evidenced as having supported decision makers in driving action/focus in to the teams, resulting in enhanced revenues.
  • Robust control framework around all pricing activities.
  • Deliver the 3-year strategy roadmap for pricing and billing

 

Specialist Experience

Formal minimum qualification

  • Honours Degree in Finance and Accounting
  • Honours Degree in Business Commerce

Other qualifications, certifications or professional memberships

  • NQF Level 6 qualification as stipulated by FAIS;
  • FAIS Compliance on entry would be an advantage

Preferred other qualifications, certifications or professional memberships

  • Master’s degree (MBA)

Experience

  • 3 - 4 years in Corporate Banking
  • 3 - 4 years in Product Knowledge & Solution
  • 3 - 4 years in Risk Management
  • 1 - 2 years in Business Support
  • 1 - 2 years in IT and Operations knowledge
