Job Description

The Business Navigator will partner with the customer and business to be client led and data informed. Partner to build leading Data Science, resulting in predictive understanding for superior client valued insights.

Accountable for efficient delivery of and maintenance of the Management Information and Analytics solutions within a specific business unit.  This role also must be able to effectively manage a team and provide assurance on delivery of world class Advanced Analytics in collaboration with the Customer Value Management and Group Data Office.

Key Accountabilities
Accountability: Business Partnering
  • Engage with the business teams on an on-going basis to understand management needs and elicit requirements for management information to produce enabling information in a presentable format.
  • Take part in business meetings and discussions where management information is used to monitor and measure the business.
  • Conduct impact analysis of any proposed changes that will impact on the accountability of the management information solutions.
  • Actively engage and participate in new initiatives within the business to ensure that the management information component is addressed.
  • Engage with internal customers to manage their expectations and deliverables.
  • Engage and facilitate the correct information visualisation for the business need and best value. (Reports, multi-dimensional pivots, mobile device, analytical etc.)
  • Do data profiling for accurate and accountable accuracy of the information delivered
  • Provide analysis on the usability and use of the different delivered management information artefacts within the business environment.
  • Define the requirement, validate the requirement and track the requirement delivery through either own effort or collaboration with internal partner provided by Customer value Management.
  • Facilitate and engage with the appropriate change management into the business and for the business. Change management also applies within the MI standards and governance, this role enables and conforms to changes with an approach of accepting and responding quickly to a rapidly moving environment.
  • Complete User Acceptance testing, final acceptance and sign off of deliverables with the business area.
  • Look for and enforce re-use and the other principles of world class MI design and implementation.

Accountability: Big Data Driven Insights

  • Play a strategic role in providing direction to adapt and transform the RBB data ecosystems in response to rapid technology innovation in digital, big data management, and advanced analytics.
  • Working with the architecture team to define the strategy for evolving the Big Data capability
  • Defining the technology components to be used on the Big Data Platform and investigating new technologies to identify where they can bring benefits.
  • Defining best practice for the agile development of applications to run on the Big Data Platform.
  • Identify key business priorities and agree priority areas where big data driven approach is required
  • Ensure the publishing of the project pipeline and alignment with business leads.
  • Leverage state of the art statistical and analytical tools and techniques in deriving relevant insights
  • Work in collaboration with the business to test the insights and engage in continuous improvement of insights
  • Recommend acquisition of external data or relevant data 
  • Lead the adoption of big data technologies and drive the evaluation of our proprietary information assets and advanced analytics to deliver hyper-personal and real-time value to clients, accelerate scale and being the bank of the future partnerships
Accountability: People Management
  • Ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal Performance Management and informal coaching.
  • Ensure that Absa values are instilled with the team and through demonstrating leadership by example.
  • Determine and analyse attestation, training and development needs for managers, ensure that these requirements are met and that managers do the same for their teams.
  • With the support from the HR Business Partner, interview and recruit direct reports and provide support to them during the recruitment of their teams on request.
  • Act as second level escalation point for all grievances raised in the business unit.
  • Ensure that all poor performance is addressed and that reward and recognition is appropriately managed
  • Drive the transformation and talent objectives and targets of the organisation within the CVP and broader team in terms of staff recruitment into priority positions and the identification and development of critical talent.
  • Ensure that appropriate succession plans are in place for all critical positions within the CVP team.
  • Develop appropriate survey action items together with the management team of the business unit and ensure that items are executed.



Specialist Experience

Education and Experience Required

  • Required Essential - BCom degree ( Business)or equivalent qualifications (NQF Level 7)
  • Actuarial degree, statistical mathematics preferred
  • Masters(MBA/MBL) or post graduate degree (NQF Level 9) preferred
  • Experience in coding in  R, Python or SAS or Absa specific coding languages
  • Demonstrate clear grasp of statistical methodology experience in data science

Knowledge & Skills:

  • A proven ability in the banking environment. Expert knowledge and experience in working within a retail and business banking environment, formulating strategies, identify and develop innovative solutions

  • Macro understanding of the business environment and how the related Industry is operating

  • Extensive knowledge of competitor and non-competitor strategy and practices in the Sector related market

  • A proven transformational profile taking solutioning to a new level

  • An established and credible relationship with industry Players

  • Interpreting and influencing of strategic signals from external and internal operating environment and translating these into relevant actions through driving change and innovation

  • Ability to provide leadership to the next generation of the data journey

  • A deep knowledge of data governance, data management and data analytics background

  • Ability to partner at a very senior level – not merely operational or technical
