Job Description

Scotiabank – Global Banking and Markets (GBM), Corporate Banking, manages the relationship and credit-related activities with clients, including: identifying opportunities, structuring of appropriate solutions, completing credit requests, negotiating documentation and monitoring compliance. Currently recruiting for an Analyst in our Energy group in Calgary.



The Analyst supports more senior officers in development of business with prospects and maintenance/enhancement of existing relationships. Analyst has two major roles: Strengthen existing relationships by providing high quality account administration and assist in obtaining new business through analysis and structuring of transactions, development of marketing materials and ad-hoc office support.



· Analyze lending opportunities. Assist in preparation of credit presentations, financial analysis and recommendations for review by more senior officers

· Assists in management of loan portfolio including: annual credit reviews, coordination of account management with team members and Loan Administration Officers, amendments and structuring of credit facilities

· Monitors client compliance

· Ensures client files are complete and up to date

· Assists in development of marketing materials for client presentations

· Expand industry and product knowledge

· Other responsibilities as assigned



· Industry product expertise

· Knowledge of lending and capital markets products and processes for execution of transactions

· Understanding of energy industry

Client Solution Focus

· Succinct analysis of key risks and mitigants for existing or proposed new business and structure transaction with supervision

· Establish concise rationale supporting actions and recommendations

· Conduct due diligence research on assigned accounts

· Integrate product group material into client pitch books

Client Relationship

· Maintain a professional approach in all client interactions

· Clear communication with clients and internal/external contacts to effectively monitor accounts


· Flexible to demands of workload and viewed as a valuable team resource

· Promotes cooperation, teamwork, and professional internal and external relationships

· Excellent writing and verbal skills with concise rationale supporting recommendations and actions

· Strong time management skills and driven to achieve timelines and goals

· High attention to detail with sense of urgency appropriate to the situation

· Desire to learn new concepts, processes and expand knowledge base

· Multi-tasking is essential


Specialist Experience

· Self-motivated, results focused, team player with strong learning ability

· Team player with ability to learn quickly

· BComm/MBA/CFA designation

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Financial modeling skills and accounting knowledge

· Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
