Manager, Google Assistant Solutions

Job Description

Google relies on gTech’s Velocity team (gV) to transform and improve people’s lives through big-bet products and services like Search, Google Assistant, and Actions on Google. Our mission is to activate, accelerate, and scale Google’s biggest bets by being trusted advisors to internal and external partners.

The gTech Velocity team’s mission is to first make mobile web faster and more engaging for users through close partnerships with Google’s customers and more scaled engagements with all other segments of customers. Second, to help bring Google Assistant to non-Google devices and services. These initiatives are critical for Google’s future growth, and require high-velocity decision-making with many teams across Google.

As a Manager, you will lead a group of technology mavericks who serve as liaisons between our partners and Google's Engineering and Business Development teams. You will work with Assistant Engineering to build scaled solutions that will be deployed with original equipment manufacturers(OEM)/Partners and lead a team working with partners to evaluate needs of OEMs, identify solutions, and help deliver/launch the product/experience with partners. You love working with first-class OEM partners and building experiences with them. You are a technical lead who will help OEM/SoC partners build on device platform software, from working with embedded Linux to managing different subsystems and simplifying the complexity of Assistant. Additionally, you and your team will oversee technical discussions with OEMs, work through deploying solutions with OEMs, and work with engineering to launch Assistant powered products/experiences.

In this role, you will build and manage capabilities to commercialize solutions so that they are supportable by gTech at scale. You will manage system integration work that allows our partners to build and launch embedded devices on top of Google’s system on chip (SoC) and microcontroller-based platforms. You will also help you team serves as advisors and identify new opportunities where our products can better help our partners' businesses. Our suite of products is growing and gTech Velocity’s Assistant Partner Engineering teams help us understand exactly what our partners need.

  • Build and manage a high-performing, Assistant-focused teams (e.g., Speakers, Automotive, Enterprise) that provide exemplary operational, launch, and consultative support to our strategic OEM partners.
  • Manage a combination of Assistant Partner Engineers, Partner Technology Managers, and System Integration Engineers that will enable Google to take product solutions from commercialization to scaled roll-out.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the scaled Assistant solution and launch it to more device categories.
  • Work with Assistant Engineering sub-teams to get these features built and implemented.


Specialist Experience

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience working with device hardware or OS/embedded software development.
  • 2 years of experience coding in C or C++.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Networking protocols, embedded Linux, and device drivers.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA, Master's degree or PhD.
  • Experience with hardware peripherals (e.g., HDMI, USB, SDIO, NAND, etc.).
  • Experience leading teams with diverse backgrounds (e.g., Technology, Product, Operations, customer facing) to execute on a shared vision.
  • Experience in a people management role (e.g., Manager or Team Lead) in a technical division/organization.
  • Understanding of hardware and software for embedded systems.
