To drive the Brand image, sell out performance and thus sustainable and profit market share growth.  Be the brand´s face and voice, internally and externally, in South Africa and other African Markets within the responsibility of adidas South Africa. Develop and steer the Go-to Market plan for South Africa in accordance with global guidelines. Drive business vertically. Contribute to the development of the global Go-to-Market plans and adapt to the needs of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.


  • Sharpen the Brand positioning/perception. Strengthen the connection to athletes, consumers, sport stakeholders in South Africa.
  • Develop and steer GTM plans by sub brand and/or business units, including account plans by category.
  • Lead and steer the alignment of global/local concept priorities, the identification of key business drivers of South Africa and the adaptation of global concepts to local specifics
  • Represent the commercial & product needs of South Africa to headquarters
  • Constantly analyze the business performance, identify business opportunities in South Africa and initiate action so South Africa can meet the needs of the business and their KPIs
  • Lead and steer the range selection process from the global range to market ranges and actively contribute to higher range efficiency
  • Manage and direct the execution of global and local brand and sports marketing strategies/concepts
  • Drive the SBP process for South Africa to ensure alignment between financial targets and GTM strategies
  • Oversee the budgeting process (in accordance with the SBP) and the MWB spending
  • Be the communication point between the MD, Area Brand Director and Global Head of GTM/Marketing
  • Develop the local SBP with a focus on category development and strategic marketing initiatives to achieve commercial and brand objectives in line with global direction.
  • Develop additional activities based on identification of local market needs and specifics by defining core target groups, strategic and operative objectives.
  • Ensure all initiatives are elaborated and developed as integrated initiatives that cover Brand Marketing, PR, Trade Marketing, Sports Marketing and category development.
  • Develop the strategic “Marketing Plan” and an operative “ Marketing deployment schedule” covering all integrated initiatives and other marketing activities and ensure implementation thereof.
  • Drive marketing strategies to ensure maximum sell through, performance and brand value.
  • Ensure effective and efficient use of the Marketing Working Budget (MWB).
  • Evaluate retail landscape and projects in South and Sub Saharan Africa.
  • Manage the team to ensure South Africa has the proper tools to implement the GTM strategies successfully and to have the correct level of support during the implementation

  • Define organizational structure, set objectives, and manage workloads and results to achieve goals while adopting best practices and achieving continuous process improvement

Specialist Experience


  • Strong leadership & management skills
  • Strong communication skills with his/her direct reports,  but more importantly, with all the  counterparts he/she will have to influence and work with (GTM, Brand Marketing, Sales, Retail, Finance, Operation, RAPCC)  
  • Strong cross functional experience, across merchandising, marketing, sales and retail, and if possible, Finance
  • Strong industry knowledge, across divisions—footwear, apparel and accessories—and across all BUs
  • Expert understanding of South Africa and African Markets’ consumers, accounts, economic environment and commercial needs
  • Strategy – ability to provide input to and implement strategy


  • 10 - 12 years of cross functional management experience ideally in merchandising/product (apparel/fashion/shoes), marketing, sales/retail required
  • Bachelor in related field required, MBA preferred
  • Previous experience in managing a global matrix organization required, preferably in a FMCG industry
  • Industry experience beneficial
  • Good trend forecasting abilities
  • Excellent strategy development skills – concept, execution and implementation
  • Excellent communication skills – presentation, negotiation, relationship building
  • Strong consumer and trade marketing skills
  • Excellent decision making skills applying initiative and creativity
