Job Overview
 
CIBC Personal and Small Business Banking provides a full range of financial products and services to 8 million personal, small business and wealth clients. Personal Banking Products is responsible for the development, distribution, servicing and profitability of lending, credit card, insurance and deposit products. As part of Personal Banking Products, the Product Analytics team is responsible for providing management information and analysis to support profitable growth. 

CIBC Insurance is responsible for the development, distribution and profitability of two product lines in Canada: (1) creditor insurance bundled with personal and business credit; (2) non creditor insurance including CIBC Life, CIBC Insurance Agency and other non creditor insurance business. 
The Product Analyst is responsible for providing high quality, insightful and timely reporting and analysis of Insurance portfolio performance. The Analyst will consult with and support the Insurance Product Management team on a range of business issues to help enable CIBC Insurance to achieve its targets.
 
What You’ll Be Doing

 
  • Assemble and deliver information to enable clients and business partners to analyze portfolio performance and to make business decisions. Information may be required on an ad-hoc or recurrent basis
  • Support sales rate reporting for the remote sales force and other channels
  • Create reporting that meets and anticipates the needs of client groups
  • Provide analytical support and advice to the Insurance Product Management team. Perform analysis of insurance products to identify opportunities, create proposals and make recommendations
  • Develop a strong understanding of the key drivers of Insurance revenue and profitability.
  • Develop a sound understanding of insurance products as well the underlying secured and unsecured credit products
  • Support analyses on topics such as retention, attrition and acquisition. Undertake analytics that drive deeper insights into the performance of various segments of the insurance portfolios
  • Assist with planning, forecasting and business casing exercises as required
  • Gain knowledge of Insurance’s data environment/warehouse to enable querying of data for analytical or reporting exercises
  • Work closely with the technology partners on items related to Insurance’s data warehouse (known as Goldmine). Acquire working knowledge of CIBC credit source system files - Excalibur, CLASS, TSYS
  • Contribute to new or more efficient processes to increase analytical and data mining capabilities
 
 

Specialist Experience

  • University degree in Business (B. Com. / MBA), Finance, Economics, Applied Science, Math, Engineering or related field
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of financial and P&L concepts. Knowledge of credit products or insurance products an asset
  • High competency level with the use of desktop tools such as MS Excel spreadsheet and MS Access database programs. Superior computer skills to organize and manipulate large volumes of data to produce meaningful analysis / draw meaningful conclusions. Previous experience with VBA and macros
  • Sound knowledge of SAS, SQL or other tools used for reporting and analytics
  • Previous experience in a reporting / analysis environment. Able to interpret requirements to generate solutions to meet business needs
  • Previous exposure to CIBC’s credit source system masterfiles such as Excalibur and CLASS an asset
  • Proactive self-starter. Ability to prioritize and committed to meeting deadlines
  • Communication: Ability to convey technical information or business results in understandable terms – written and verbal.
  • Flexibility to adapt to an evolving environment with shifting priorities. Team player
